Dress Code Policy: School Year 2009-2010

The Board of Directors has approved a mandatory dress code specific to Academie Da Vinci and our own
unique, community needs. The intent for this policy is to raise the bar for education and ensure the classrooms are free of unnecessary distractions as well as to maintain student safety. This policy has been constructed with a great deal of community input as well as consideration of the current Pinellas County dress code requirements. The following dress code has been adopted for the 2009-2010 school year:

Daily Clothes:

Bottoms: Every day, students will wear khaki, navy blue, plaid, or denim bottoms provided they are clean and free of holes, frays, and sequins. This includes pants, jumpers, shorts, and skirts hemmed to mid-thigh length or longer. No mesh or gym shorts are permitted.

Tops: Every day, students will wear collared "golf" shirts and/or dress shirts and/or ADV t-shirts. Shirts may be of any color or pattern but may not have writing. Tank tops, "belly shirts", or shirts with writing and graphics are not permitted.

Shoes: Socks and sneakers/tennis shoes must be worn at all times. Dress shoes are appropriate for certain events (theater field trips, picture day, etc.). Sandals or skate shoes are not permitted.

Dance Clothes:

Boys: Boys must wear black jazz pants to school on dance days (Mondays and Tuesdays) as well as a white t-shirt and black (flat, no heel) dance shoes. Black shorts can be worn from August 21st through October 15th and again from April 1st through June 3rd.

Girls: Girls can wear either black leotards and pink tights or pink or black jazz pants and a white t-shirt to school on dance days (Mondays and Tuesdays). Girls must have pink (flat, no heel) dance shoes. Black or pink shorts can be worn from August 21st through October 15th and again from April 1st through June 3rd.  Students with hair shoulder-length and longer are required to attend dance with hair in a bun.

Parents will be called when students do not adhere to this dress code and requirements will need to be met before returning the student to school. The dress code clothing can be found at a wide variety of stores including: Target, Walmart, JCPenney, and Sears.

                                                    Student Drop-Off and Pick-UP

Drop-off and pick-up is conducted in the two lanes of the parking area in front of the school.   Parents/
drivers remain in the car while a staff member or member of the safety patrol opens the door and escorts the child in/out of the car.  Under NO circumstance is a child allowed to open or close his/her own car door!  This ensures the child's safety and prevents injuries, snagged clothes/shoestrings, and other dangers.

Traffic in the drop-off/pick-up lanes will be directed to move by a staff member.  Watch for their hand signals, move slowly and cautiously.  There are NO LEFT TURNS allowed out of the school between 8:15-8:30 and 2:50-3:15.  This is a city ordinance and drivers can be ticketed for infractions.

Mornings:  St
udents must be dropped off in front of the school between 8:10 am and 8:25 am.  Students should report directly to the area in front of their classrooms.  The playground is NOT open for play before school. Students should be in their classrooms promptly at 8:30.  The entry gate will be closed and locked at 8:30.  Late arrivers must enter through the front office door and sign in to receive a tardy pass.  No student will be admitted to class after 8:30 without a pass.

TARDY POLICY:  Timeliness is important.  Families must plan their mornings so that their children are in school on time.  Late arrivers (at or after 8:30 am) must report to the office for a pass to class.  After 5 tardies or any number if they are exceptionally late, parents will be asked for a conference with the principal so that the problem can be explored and rectified.

Afternoons:  Kindergarteners and First Graders will be dismissed from the Main Building from 2:50 - 3:00.  These classes will have their backpacks and take-home items with them.  As parents arrive in the car circle, these children will be called out one by one, and escorted to their car by the teacher on duty.   PARENTS MUST REMAIN IN THEIR CARS!  Each car must display the child last name placard (supplied by the school) on their passenger side sun visor.

3:00 - 3:15:  2nd through 5th grade students will be dismissed one by one as parents arrive in the car circle.  Parents of 2nd -5th graders arriving before 3:00 will be asked to leave the car circle and return at the correct time.  Parents with children in both age groups (younger and older pick-ups) should plan to arrive during the 3:00 - 3:15 slot.  Each car must display the name placrad on the passenger side sun visor.

Families who have arranged for other pick-up (child care programs, karate, etc.) must make contact with those agencies directly.  However, Academie Da Vinci  MUST be alerted as to whom the child will ride.

All students who have not been picked-up by 3:15 will be sent to the afternoon Extended Learning Program.  The family must then make arrangements to pay that staff for the time their child was supervised.  Delays by parents at pick-up time can be quite stressful for young children; knowing as soon as possible that they should report to the ELP Program makes the afternoon more routine and predictable for the child.  Delayed parents should call the school as soon as possible and request their child be sent to ELP.

EXTENDED LEARNING PROGRAM:  Academie Da Vinci offers a before and after school program, conducted and supervised by qualified adult educators.  Morning hours are 7:00 am - 8:20 am; afternoon hours are 2:45 pm - 5:45 pm. every school day, and Pro-Ed days.  (There is no ELP Program on school holidays.)

The program offers academic support, assistance with homework, and academically-oriented youth activities.  The afternoon session provides a snack and drink for each child.  We encourage every family to enroll in the services, whether they use the program or not.  Enrollment ensures that, in the event of an unforeseen delay, the child can be notified by the principal that s/he will be attending ELP that day.
Enrollment and fees are detailed in a booklet sent home to each family the first day of school.
