News and Notes from Academie Da Vinci
As we move into spring we are always working with our students to prepare them for success in academics and in their social and emotional growth and development. Yesterday we had a lengthy training with the grade 3-5 teachers regarding the upcoming Florida State Assessments. Here at Academie Da Vinci we are proud of the A School rating we achieved for last year and we are working to earn that again. Important components of student success on any test are: a positive attitude, the ability to manage stress and an understanding of maintaining their focus and effort over the testing time. Our students will have a snack and stretch break before testing and another stretch break during each testing session. They’ll have recess after each testing session. Here is the testing schedule for Academie Da Vinci: (in accordance with Pinellas County Schools). Please make sure your child has a good night’s sleep and a good breakfast on testing days. Make – up tests will be given for any absent students on the days following the original test days.

Our Second Step curriculum is in full swing – students are bringing home parent communication sheets and homework sheets for Second Step. I hear that teachers and students are enjoying the curriculum which builds skills in Listening, Empathy, Friendship and Problem Solving.
Last Saturday was Dad’s Work Day here at Academie da Vinci. A group of parents came together to put some final touches on our playground area and deck. Some photos follow of the very successful work day… here is a BEFORE Photo

Our playground and deck area is now cleaner, safer and more beautiful, Special thanks to Jose Borrego, Frank Malosky, Dwayne Leininger, Chris Hanaway, Dave McKee, Jeff Rathmell, Brad Malone, Jeff Mullins and Brian Preston. I understand these Dads are promising more projects in the future! Thank you so much for your contribution of time and effort to Academie Da Vinci.
I also wanted to share some recent pictures from Mrs. Cox, our new music teacher. Mrs. Swain’s class was having a fun time doing an exercise on one student mirroring another while classical music was playing.
And finally, we have an exciting P.E. Photo – Mr. Aument is settling in just fine!
Please check out the ADV calendar at www.academiedavinci.org to keep up on all the events. One big event coming up is our annual ART SHOW AND SALE, scheduled for Thursday April 21 at the Palm Harbor Community Center. Come and see our students’ art and purchase art items, donated items and collaborative art works. The sale will benefit our art program. Our spring shows are scheduled for May 11 (3-5) and May 12 (K-2). We are really looking forward to the shows!
