WELCOME TO THE 2014-2015 SCHOOL YEAR AT ACADEMIE DA VINCI !
We hope that you will use this website to inform, refresh and involve yourself in Academie Da Vinci. As the new Principal, I look forward to meeting and working with our amazing students, parents, extended family members and our wonderful supporters and volunteers. I am getting to know our teachers and staff this summer and have been impressed by their commitment to the highest standards in academics and the arts. I personally can't wait to see the many exciting shows and participate in the many fundraisers and events at Academie Da Vinci. I am working with the Board of Directors and the PTA to update all the information on the website and to keep it current, informative and exciting.
Currently I am reviewing student enrollment, waitlists and our spring 2014 FCAT results. More information will be posted on FCAT scores soon but individual reports are available for parents to pick up (please call ahead). One change that is happening before school starts is the creation of a new classroom for our gifted students and improved space for our students who use resource support. These changes will support our efforts to instill higher level critical thinking skills in all students. In addition, our Resource Teacher is now a full time position and our Gifted teacher has increased her hours, to better serve our children's needs.
It's very exciting to join a school that has such committed parent involvement. I encourage every parent to join our PTA, attend the meetings and participate in the life of our school. The PTA organizes many events that benefit Academie Da Vinci. Every event needs volunteers. School volunteers assist with classroom tasks, lunchtime, field trips, festivals, PTA fundraising, office help, yearbook, playground maintenance, and more. Please contact the school office to complete a Volunteer Form.
Every subject and activity in the elementary curriculum is important for your child's development. Teachers will assign homework at least four days each week. Homework is designed to reinforce skills taught and give opportunities for practice. Every student should also be reading every day. Please help your child understand the assignments and check afterwards that the work is complete and packed for the next school day.
Sincerely, Lucy Foran
