It’s been an exciting first couple of weeks of school here at Academie Da Vinci, with our students getting to know their teachers and making new classroom friends. I really enjoyed seeing many families at the PTA meeting last night.
At the PTA Meeting, I reported on our continuing efforts to improve our facilities, such as the new door buzzer and security alarm, the new front door railings and our new cafeteria tables. We have planned a long list of improvements large and small that I will share with you as the months go on. We have recently hired Ismael Moreno, a 20 year army veteran, as our Maintenance Coordinator. Ismael is able complete many small and large repairs and improvements to our buildings.
During September we work with the FAIR (Florida Assessments for Instruction in Reading), tests, starting next week. In the younger grades these are 10-15 minutes individual assessments. In the older grades (3-5) students take these assessments on line in a group. Parent reports will be available in October.
Next week on September 11, students in the older grades will be learning about the events of 9/11/2001 and working to understand its impact on our country. It’s also Patriot Day on 9/11 – children may dress in red, white and blue (no large graphics, no tank tops, etc. ) while still following the dress code with regard to polo shirts, shorts under skirts and dresses. Sneakers and socks must still be worn.
September 16 is individual picture day – it is a dress up day but sneakers and socks must still be worn. Field trips are now starting to be planned as well as visits to the school by a variety of artists, performers and special events such as a fire truck visit. Please review the school calendar on the website (under “current families”) for more information about exciting events coming up and we will continue to keep you informed about special events as they are scheduled.
Sincerely, Lucy Foran, Principal
