Happy New Year and welcome back, everyone !
Welcome back to school at Academe Da Vinci ! The Winter Shows were so lovely and the Silent Auction was a great success. Thanks to everyone who made these events possible. We will let you know when the DVD's are available – you may still order the show DVD's for the next few days after we return from winter break only if you didn't place your order already. See Miss Ashleigh for the order form.
We have a lot to do this winter and are getting right to it ! On January 5, teachers and staff are meeting to share breakfast, complete required medication training provided by parent Lisa Schultz, RN (thanks, Lisa !) and talk about preparing your children for the new Florida Assessments. We also will get ready to welcome new students who took seats vacated by a couple of families who moved out of our area.
This is a very important time of year. Academie Da Vinci teachers have been working intensively with the new Florida Standards since the beginning of the school year. Now they are focusing even more intensively on preparing our students in grades 3-5 for the new assessments that measure achievement on those new learning standards.
On Thursday January 8 at the PTA meeting I will be doing a brief presentation on the Florida Standards, which reflect the Common Core Standards you have probably heard so much about. I plan to do a presentation on the new Florida Assessments at the February PTA meeting.
We have more events planned: on Wednesday January 14 from 5-6 pm there will be a "Meet the Teacher" night for 4th grade parents to meet Mrs. Hugan and Mr. Hart. Please RSVP to Miss Ashleigh if you are attending. On January 22, Academie Da Vinci will host a "Kindergarten Open House" for those families who would like to register for our Kindergarten class for 2015-2016. Further information about the Kindergarten Open House will be forthcoming.
New Lunch Schedule: Starting the first day back at school, Tuesday January 6, Academie Da Vinci is moving to a 3 lunch schedule. This is to alleviate crowding in the café and to better support our students' having a healthy and relaxing lunch. The new schedule is:
First lunch - Kindergarten and first grade: 11:25 am-11:50 am
Second lunch – second and third grade: 11:55 am-12:20 pm
Third lunch – fourth and fifth grade: 12:25-12:50 pm
The new schedule has almost no change for students in K-3. Teachers will adjust their morning snack times if needed to help the older students adjust to the later start time for lunch. We appreciate the Pinellas County Schools food service for helping us work out this change. With fewer students in the café we know that lunches will be served quickly so that all students can enjoy their meal. We will continue to award "Golden Tree" for lunch outside and of course visiting parents may choose to sit outside or inside when they come for lunch.
Sincerely, Ms. Foran, Principal
