February 2015

Working toward Spring!

This month at Academie Da Vinci we are hosting tours, accepting many applications for our 2015-2016 school year and processing sibling registrations. Special thanks to Miss Ashleigh and Miss Paula for all their work. We have also been working on hiring new substitute teachers and an additional staff member - a part-time bookkeeper, who will help Miss Paula and Miss Ashleigh with their workload. We will welcome Ms. Pitman back in the middle of the month too. I will send out announcements about new staff when the hiring process is complete. I will also be doing a short presentation on the new Florida State Assessments at the PTA Meeting February 5.

The new lunch schedule is going very well – we have a somewhat quieter cafeteria, the children get their lunch served much more quickly and they get more staff attention because there are fewer of them and the same number of staff on duty. Don't forget to ask your child about their class earning the special table for lunch on Fridays (replaces Golden Tree, as previously announced) and earning Da Vinci dollars for classroom rewards. Also if a parent would like to come in and lead Academie Café during a lunch once in a while we would welcome that!

Regarding lunch, after a trial of 4 months, we regret to announce that we will no longer use www.myschoolbucks.com as the payment mechanism for the Pinellas County School hot lunch. We decided to try this system upon the recommendation of PCSB Food Services that it would be more efficient. Unfortunately, the system does not work well for charter schools. Please spend down your account with myschoolbucks, but please ensure that the account is paid through lunches served up to February 27. We will help parents figure out any concerns with changing back to our own system. Academie Da Vinci will begin accepting checks again for hot lunch as of March 2.

This week I gave out 168 certificates for perfect attendance for the month of January. We will celebrate more attendance awards as the year goes on and we will have a special recognition event for perfect attendance for the school year in June.

Finally, we are really looking forward to all the events coming up: hope to see you at the Bike Rodeo this Saturday (2/7)!

Sincerely,  Ms. Foran, Principal
