We have lots to talk about this November – including our proposal for Middle School, wrapping up fundraisers, Veterans’ Day, deck progress, Colonial Days, and the Dunedin Showcase of Schools
I walked by Mrs. Pacana’s Gifted Classroom this morning and saw some very interesting projects being presented by our 5th graders. Here a couple of photos – they are doing wonderful work! The title of the project was Exploration of the Nutritional Habitat: Diseases and Conditions!
The PTA Mixed Bags and Cookware fundraiser is just about complete – thanks to Jen Spence for coordinating this fundraiser. There will be a report on the success of this fundraiser at the December 3 PTA Meeting.
ADV’s Wall Calendar fundraiser is almost finished. This fundraiser, to benefit the deck, goes to November 13. Thanks to Tina Malosky, for her great idea and for heading this one up and to Mrs. Stanziano for organizing the students’ collaborative artwork. I can’t wait to see my calendars!
Our deck is progressing very nicely! Although we had hoped it would be complete now we are waiting for delivery of some final materials to finish off the railings. We’ll keep you informed.
If your child is in 2nd Grade, you have a very special day coming up next week – it’s Colonial Days! Ms. Cerchie’s and Mrs. Swain’s classes will put on a demonstration of crafts, work and fun in the café on Wednesday November 18 from 1:30-2:30 pm. Parents are invited to come and see and hear what the children have learned from their unit on Colonial times. I’ll see you there!
Yesterday we celebrated Veterans’ Day. 5th Grade classes had several veterans come to speak. I think these photos speak for themselves…
Thanks so much to all our Vets!
On Saturday December 5, ADV will participate in the Dunedin Showcase of Schools. This event will held at Edgewater Park from 2-4 pm. ADV will be there to showcase our school. Come down to see Mrs. Bartelloni and several other teachers. Dancers from 3-5th grade will put on some previews from the Nutcracker! Ms. Rose sent home information last week with 3rd-5th grade students so please check those backpacks!
We know that our proposal for Middle School is moving through the process to be reviewed by the School Board. We are working closely with the Charter School office and are “cautiously optimistic”. We have planned great courses for our potential 6th grade students, continuing to emphasize our commitment to the arts and technology. We will be offering the Accelerated Learning Programs in Science and Math for our middle school students so that they will have the opportunity to earn high school credit in 8th grade. At the ADV middle school, your child will be well-prepared for an academically challenging high school experience. I will keep you informed as soon as we have any official news.
