Typical Clubs/Activities Available During the School Year
From semester to semester, there are typically several clubs and extracurricular activities available after school at ADV to our students. Several of these clubs were introduced during the past few years ago and grow in popularity each year. These clubs are typically run directly by an ADV teacher or an outside company. Occassionally, ADV directly runs an after school program to fill a temporary need. Each of these clubs/activities are offered for a set fee for a semester (1/2 a year). Please contact the club/activities contact for specific cost information.
The Builder's Club is for K-5 students who love to construct different objects using a variety of building materials. Some of the materials we use are Legos, gears, blocks, newspaper, and pop-sickle sticks.
Last year, some of the projects that we did was to build objects out of Legos, constructing a house and a tower out of newspaper, building a bridge out of pop-sickle sticks, and making gingerbread houses. We also learned about simple machines and had stacking cups competitions.
Students will learn how to write, record, produce and edit the ADV News*. This is a weekly broadcast highlighting the events at our school. Students will practice camera shots, television lighting, writing scripts and more. *Sponsored by Philips Entertainment.
6th grade students will deliver the Morning Announcements for the K-5 students. We will begin with audio-only announcements which include the date, pledge and lunch menu. Later we plan to use iPads and Skype to do real-time video announcements.
