Technology Elective

4th and 5th Grade Technology Elective

Technology class is for those who love technology! Students will be introduced to computers, computer safety, learn basic keyboarding, explore the use of graphic organizers, work with programs like Word, PowerPoint and Excel and learn how to do basic coding. Students will have access to both PCs and iPads in their exploration. A $26 lab fee is required for this elective.

6th Grade Technology Elective

Are you interested in learning more about technology? Technology Elective covers digital citizenship, digital literacy, online communication, software, hardware, coding, and so much more. This class is a per-requisite and lays the groundwork for growth and progress toward potential MOS certifications. The focus of this class is to develop basic skills, vocabulary and proficiency of use. Students will have access to and use both PCs and iPads during this class. $26 lab fee required.

7th Grade Technology Elective

This elective course explores more intensely the world of digital literacy and citizenship. Students will learn to use the tools of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint more acutely. This project based class will help students enhance their online communication while developing life-long skills for the workplace. Students will have access to Microsoft 365 to complete work, some of which is required at home. Course placement is for students on the Technology track who would like to work toward a potential MOS certification.  Students work through the Key Applications and Computing Fundamentals coursework to obtain certification in the IC3 program. Students who pass the IC3 exams will show knowledge of computer hardware, software, networks, and the Internet, as certification in IC3 is recognized internationally. $26 lab fee required.

8th Grade Technology Elective

In this elective course students will finalize Microsoft Office tools for program proficiency.  Students will have access to Microsoft 365 to complete work, some of which is required at home. Course placement is for students who desire to complete their MOS certification. Certification as a Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) demonstrates a student has advanced skills in key office programs such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel and Outlook. (Did you know: Acquisition of a MOS certification can earn an entry-level business employ as much as $16,000 more in annual salary than uncertified peers.) Students will also continue to work through the Key Applications and Computing Fundamentals coursework to obtain certification in the IC3 program if not previously completed. $26 lab fee required.

 

 

Music Elective

4th and 5th Grade Music Elective - Musical Theatre

Students will have the opportunity to refine and perform acting and singing skills to be showcased in a musical theatre production at the end of the school year. Students in both classes will collaborate with each other and the dance elective classes to rehearse and perform. Combined rehearsals of 4th/5th grades and with the Dance Elective class will be held as show dates approach. There will be after school rehearsals and performances required for this class. Auditions will be held to determine individual speaking parts and solo parts for the performance. Students will also study music theatre history, vocabulary, and etiquette. There will be a $26 studio fee for show materials.

6th Grade Music Elective

Students will explore vocal and instrumental ensembles. They will learn proper performance techniques on several instruments, including voice, recorder, and Orff percussion instruments. Students will study music history, music theartre, and music theory. Students will collaborate to arrange music for performances. Auditions will be held to determine individual speaking parts and solo parts for performances. After school practices and performances will be required for this class. Students will work with the music and dance elective students in other grades to rehearse and perform for a final music theatre production at the end of the school year. $26 studio fee required.

Art Elective

4th and 5th Grade Art Elective

Art Elective is a class designed to give all students an opportunity to more fully explore art history and creative expression from specific historical eras. We will examine a variety of art movements and create works inspired by noted artists. There will be a $26 studio fee which will cover handouts and supplies for units of study outside of our traditional scope.

6th Grade Art Elective

Students are introduced to the rigor and routine of the art production process including: planning, producing, and reflecting on art. With an emphasis on studio arts, students explore a wide range of 2D and 3D media, with a focus on developing skills in drawing, painting, printmaking, and collage, as related to contemporary and historical art perspectives. Projects may also include digital art, mixed media, pottery, and sculpture. Students develop technical skills, foster thier expressive abilities and employ the use of the elements of art throughout the production process. Student artists use an art criticism process to evaluate, explain, and measure artistic growth in personal or group works. $26 studio fee required.

7th Grade Art Elective

Students investigate contemporary and historical art themes using 2D and 3D media, skills, and techniques; while engaging in the art production process within a studio arts environment. Projects may include but are not limited to: drawing, painting, printmaking, digital art, collage, mixed media, pottery, and sculpture. Students create new meaning from various media formats, and communicate artistic ideas through the intentional use of the elements of art within their work. Students explain the significance of their personal artwork, investigate multiple artistic project solutions, and create expressive and technically rigorous artwork requiring sequentially ordered procedures and specified media to achieve intended results. Students actively employ thoughtful use of the elements and principles of art throughout the art production process with the intention of creating unified pieces of artwork. $26 studio fee required.

8th Grade Art Elective

Students manipulate 2D and 3D media, skills, and techniques toward a desired project outcome within a studio environment through the exploration of contemporary and historical viewpoints.  With the guidance of the instructor, students are expected to design and create quality, original artwork using the elements and principles of art.  Projects may include, but are not limited to, drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, mixed media, pottery, and digital art, and sculpture.  Students explain the significance of their personal artwork through artist statements, and are expected to be self-directed within the studio environment.  Independent homework/projects are frequently assigned and students are expected to maintain a sketchbook provided by the instructor. $26 studio fee required.

Dance Elective

Dance Elective is a class that will dig deeper into your student's dance training by developing technique, exploring choreography, expanding their dance vocabulary conditioning and performance skills.

Students in both dance and music elective classes will collaborate with each other to rehearse and perform. Combined rehearsals and some required after school rehearsals with 4th and 5th grades music. There will be a $26 fee for show materials.

Along with dance technique and performance, dancers will also learn about the elements of dance, dance choreography, improvisation, anatomy, audition techniques and more.  Students will have a required dance dress code that MUST be followed. $26 studio fee required.
